Whether it’s across the railways or at border control, strike dates have been plaguing the travel industry in Europe for the last year or so with April being no different.
Certain countries will see more airport and rail strikes this month, with the first taking place in just a few day’s time.
European travel strike dates for April to cause further disruption: UK
If you’re visiting the UK, there are numerous rail disruptions to be aware of. These include:
April 5 – Avanti West Coat, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway
Saturday 6 April – Chiltern Railways, Great Western Railway, Heathrow Express, LNER, Northern and TransPennine Express
Monday 8 April – c2c, Gatwick Express, Great Northern, Greater Anglia (including Stansted Express), South Western Railway, Southeastern, Southern and Thameslink
Drivers at those train companies are also on an overtime ban from April 4 – April 6 and then again on April 8 – April 9.
If you do have a ticket booked for any of the three strike dates, check to see if this has been rescheduled. You should be entitled to a date change or refund, contact the retailer you bought the tickets from.
If you’re planning to be on the London Underground on April 8, be aware that tube drivers have planned to strike. They plan to do so again on May 4.
More than 600 UK Border Force officers at Heathrow Airport will be on strike on April 11, April 12, April 13, April 14. This is a busier time than normal anyway as it’s the last four days of the Easter holidays.
Be prepared for longer queues and wait times if you’re flying in or out of Heathrow Airport on those April dates.
Spain Strike Dates in April
Industrial action took place at Palma Airport over the Easter weekend, with this ending on March 31.
A lunchtime strike was planned at Valencia airport too which happened over the weekend (March 28 – April 1).
France Strike Dates in April
Protests in France have been ongoing for some time, with future walkouts possible and they could be announced at the last minute.
If you’ve booked transport in France this month, keep an eye on the website you bought from to see updates.
SNCF train controllers have put out a strike notice for April 30 until May 31 and RATP have a strike notice which runs until September 9.
