The Taiwanese based airline, EVA Air, has announced its all-new 42 inch Premium Economy Class seats which will be introduced on the Boeing 787-9.

The new offering looks more business than premium, with the class featuring 28 seats arranged in a 2-3-2 configuration. The chairs also recline the equivalent to eight inches.

Along with the extra room, there will be a 15.6-inch high-resolution widescreen monitor, along with a multi-function entertainment system controller. For those who need a 110V AC or USB port, there will be power outlets to match these fitted into the seats.

“As the world’s first airline to launch Premium Economy Class, EVA Air has consistently focused on innovation driven by passenger needs and setting industry trends.

“The fourth-generation seats retain the core philosophy of previous generations while enhancing comfort, fashion, and functionality, showcasing our commitment to service innovation and attention to detail,” said EVA Air President Clay Sun in a press release.

“The Boeing 787-9 aircraft featuring the new Premium Economy Class will initially serve the Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE)-Jakarta (CGK) route, with future deployment on flights from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) to Munich (MUC), Milan (MXP), direct flights to Vienna (VIE), and on the Day flight to San Francisco (SFO) in the future.”

EVA Air adds to its fleet and improves seat offering

This airline was the first to introduce the Premium Economy Class, with it being known as ‘Evergreen Deluxe Class’ in 1992. At the time, this brought a whole new flying experience.

Back then, the seats measured 38-inches in pitch and came equipped with personal TV systems.

Flashing back to current day, EVA Air’s newly delivered 787-9 aircraft features Royal Laurel Class, Premium Economy Class and Economy Class. All future Boeing 787-9 will follow the same three-class configuration.

A total of eight more Boeing 787-9s and five Boeing 787-10s will be introduced by 2029. Along with 18 A350-1000 wide-body aircraft starting in 2027 and 15 A321neo narrow-body aircraft starting in 2029.
