United Airlines has announced its largest international expansion in history as it will soon begin to service eight new destinations.

The new additions will be offered from May 2025 onwards, with United launching five new nonstop flights from its hub in Newark/New York to Nuuk, Greenland; Palermo, Italy; Bilbao, Spain; Madeira Island, Portugal and Faro, Portugal.

The airline will also be adding three new nonstop routes from Washington D.C./Dulles which will include its first-ever flight to Dakar in Senegal which will operate year-round. Other seasonal nonstop flights include Nice in France and Venice in Italy.

These inclusions to its roster marks United’s largest transatlantic schedule in history, with more than 760 weekly flights.

United Airlines increases weekly direct flights in expansion

The number of weekly direct flights between Newark/New York and Palma de Mallorca, Spain, Newark/New York and Dubrovnik, Croatia, Newark/New York and Athens, Greece will be increased too.

Select flights will begin earlier in the summer too, so customers can fly to places like Venice, Athens and Barcelona sooner.

It’s not just European destinations that will be serviced though, as United Airlines will be adding direct flights from Tokyo-Narita to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and Kaohsiung – destinations no other U.S. airline serves – and a new nonstop flight to Koror, Palau.

The new flights are subject to government approval and will be available for sale through the United website and its app.

With the launch to take place for next summer, this will bring up United’s offerings to a total of 800 daily flights to and from 147 international destinations.

In the press release announcing the news, Patrick Quayle, the Senior Vice President of Global Network Planning and Alliances said: “”No other airline gives customers nonstop access to as many unique international destinations and experiences from the U.S. as United.”

“Our network provides the most choice and variety for our customers, whether they are looking for a relaxing seaside getaway, once-in-a-lifetime adventure travel or to explore some of the most vibrant urban escapes across the globe.”
