Blue skies with an ice restaurant in the forefront. It has three curved entrances, each with a door at the front.

Have you ever wanted to live out a “Frozen” fantasy? From January 2025, you’ll be one step closer with the opening of America’s first ice restaurant!

2001 saw the launch of Quebec’s Hôtel de Glace – literally, a “hotel of ice”. Upon opening, it had just six rooms and a capacity of 22 guests per night. Since then, it has grown, relocated and developed to offer 44 rooms and various additional services including a chapel and ice slide.

Now, it’s taking things a step further with a one-of-a-kind new restaurant, made entirely out of snow and ice, offering a unique fine dining experience to match this already-unique accommodation.

This new venture will be part of Quebec’s Hôtel de Glace 25th anniversary celebrations with a full events calendar still-to-come.

As part of the festivities, the hotel is partnering with the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac.

“Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac constantly pushes the boundaries of hospitality, offering our guests experiences that highlight what makes our destination unique, while maintaining world-class service standards,” said Mr. Jean-François Vary, General Manager of the Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac in a press release.

“This new partnership with l’Hotel de Glace de Québec fits perfectly into this vision. Together, we are joining forces to create a unique restaurant concept, celebrating the identity of our city through its distinctive seasonality and its gastronomic excellence.

“We offer the guests memorable, immersive and extraordinary moments. We look forward to officially unveiling this project, which invites our visitors to discover our destination in a new light.”

North America’s first ice restaurant is based in Quebec

So, what’s included? On Fridays and Saturdays across January to March 2025, guests can enjoy a luxury three-course menu. Culinary delights available will include pastry-topped soup with wild boar consommé, slow-cooked beef short rib with celeriac purée, panisse with vegetable jus and a thematically apt dessert: coconut and passion fruit snowball.

Of course, at Hôtel de Glace, the whole package is important. Alongside gourmet dining, guests can expect to sit on ice benches adorned with fur and to explore themes of the four elements through surrounding innovative ice sculptures.

Fire will be visualized through an impressive volcano, wind through an intricate windmill, water through a celebration of rivers and earth moving in its magmatic state.
